This particular full-body warm up would benefit your movement restricted, 50+ age golfers looking to improve their preparation before a round. The warm starts by improving the fluid dynamics of the hips with a rub and scrub bringing some hydration and increased tissue viscosity to this important area for swinging sports. Next, by recruiting some of smaller motor units in a linear fashion a client can begin improving their ability to decouple the hips with a half kneeling front to back sagittal reach. By performing an squat to step and stretch next, the client will begin to open up and create space in the anterior/posterior hips (flexion/extension), T-spine (extension) and shoulder girdle (extension). After creating space in this linear movement, 3D / rotational mobility will be explored by having the client perform prone T-spine rotations. To further recruit some more smaller motor units, especially of the core, the client next performs half kneeling Type 1 spinal movement with accompanied by forced exhalations. Now, it is time to excite the more phasic muscles by having them turn on and off as quick as possible. I would stick with the half kneeling Type 1 spinal movement, but add in some percussive breathing so we can now excite the core muscles by turning them on and off rapidly -ie golf swing. Finally, to stimulate the sensory input of the client, eye tracking during lateral steps will be used. This will be with the body and head moving, eyes staying fixed on a target - ie - simulating hand/eye coordination involved in golf swing.
