Back of House 7 – 14 Day Workout/Work In

A general program designed for culinary arts professionals from behind the Line to behind the desk. This profession places an extremely high cognitive and emotional load on all systems, however tends to produce tight-knit social systems which help to off-load these stresses.

Physically, the primary focus of this program is locating and resolving tension held in the body from the inherent stresses of the job + generally address postural adaptations to the work, such as hunched/kyphotic shoulders, compensation in LPHC and knees, spinal compression due to intermittent sedentary admin work + standing in place.

The brain will translate all of the above stressors as “trauma” and preoccupy itself with protecting these areas by tensing the surrounding tissues up. Injury and local tension unrelated to the job demands add layers of trauma that can also be addressed at this time through exploration of the Work-In and Recovery components. Some individuals may find it beneficial to spend weeks or months in the recovery modes before progressing to the workouts.

Secondary focus is to build endurance strength and cardio if required, and/or maintain healthy levels of cardiorespiratory and neuromechanical fitness without overburdening these systems. A 7-Step Prep for BOH is included in the Strength Endurance Workout, which can be practiced on its own before a shift.
