Welcome to Phase 1 of Ringette BC’s Excellence Program for off-ice conditioning. Phase 1 is designed to focus on the base of your overall readiness and preparedness (for greater training loads) and to start from “the ground up”.
This will act as your foundation for your off-ice training over the summer months, and translate into a greater working capacity on the ice for the upcoming season.
At this time in the training cycle, it is important to slow down and focus on areas of development, such as: stability, mobility, activation, coordination, and relative bodyweight strength. Metabolic (i.e. cardiovascular) conditioning is also included – mostly with lower-to-moderate intensity; however, higher-intensity conditioning does get re-introduced in week three of this phase.
Each phase will progress towards getting you ready for the upcoming season. As the current season recently ended, this phase does not include power training; however, speed, agility, quickness, acceleration/deceleration, and plyometrics will all be incorporated, and take on a greater importance, as you progress through the phases, moving towards the start of the next season.
The KEY is to stay consistent with your training – the more consistent you are, the better rewards you will reap.
